Man Fights Off Would-Be Carjacker in Walmart Parking Lot in Tamarac: BSO

Authorities are hoping surveillance video will lead them to a knife-wielding suspect whose attempted carjacking in a Tamarac parking lot was foiled by a man who was able to fight him off.

The incident happened the afternoon of Dec. 5 in the parking lot of the Walmart at 6931 Northwest 88th Avenue, according to a Broward Sheriff's Office incident report.

According to the report, the 44-year-old victim, Leon Miguel, saw a man checking car handles and looking into windows in the parking lot.

Miguel approached the man and said "Can I help you, what are you doing?" the report said.

"You wanna die today?" the suspect said, while pulling out a knife. The report said the suspect then put the knife in his pocket and walked up to Miguel in a fighting stance.

The two started to fight and Miguel was able to knock the suspect's knife away. At one point, the suspect got into Miguel's Kia and tried to drive away, but Miguel was able to pull him out of the car, the report said.

The suspect fled the scene on foot. Miguel suffered some bruises and scratches.

BSO released surveillance footage of the incident and the suspect inside the Walmart. He's described as a black male with a slim build, about 6-foot to 6-foot-2, in his late teens or early 20s, and about 160 pounds. He has tattoos on his face including one under his left eye and one over and under his right eye.

Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
