Man Found Floating in Intracoastal Waterway in Fort Lauderdale

Man dies at hospital after he was pulled from waterway

A man who was found floating face-down in the Intracoastal Waterway in Fort Lauderdale Wednesday morning has died, authorities said.

Rescue workers and police received a 911 call around 9:45 a.m. of a body floating in the waterway about 100 yards south of the Sunrise Boulevard Bridge, Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue spokesman Matt Little said.

The body had been spotted by someone on the 10th floor of a nearby building, Little said.

A Water Taxi operator helped first responders find the man, who was fully dressed and estimated to be about 55 years old, Little said. Rescue workers initiated lifesaving protocols at the scene.

The unidentified man was taken to Broward Health where he was later pronounced dead, Fort Lauderdale Police spokeswoman Det. DeAnna Garcia said.

It is unknown how he ended up in the water but Fort Lauderdale Police are investigating. No foul play is suspected, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Fort Lauderdale Police at 954-828-5970.
