Man Hospitalized After Almost Drowning in Sunny Isles

A man was rushed to the hospital Saturday afternoon after almost drowning in Sunny Isles Beach.

Officials said they had to perform CPR on the victim.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said the incident happened around 6:15 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

Officials said the victim and a minor were taken out of the water near Collins Ave. and 190th Street to be given CPR by lifeguards, while fire rescue arrived.

The child was reported to be listed as stable.

The victim was not breathing and had to be taken to Aventura Trauma Center. His age and identity is not known at this time.

“The ocean is very choppy, big waves, and there are a lot of rip currents, so it’s definitely not a good idea to swim,” said Nicolas, a witness who saw the incident unfold.

The First Alert Weather team says high chances of rip currents are expected throughout the weekend.
