Man Indicted in Wilton Manors Double Murder

Suspect charged in murder of two men Christmas weekend

The man accused of killing two men in Wilton Manors last December was indicted Wednesday night on murder charges, police said.

Peter Serge Avsenew, 26, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of armed robbery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, unlawful use of a credit card, and grand theft auto.

Avsenew is accused in the double homicide of Stephen Duane Adams and Kevin Mark Powell, who were found dead inside their home in the 2500 block of Northeast 8th Ave. on Dec, 26, 2010.

Adams, 52, and Powell, 47, both had multiple gunshot wounds.

Avsenew was arrested on Dec. 29 when he was found driving Powell's SUV in Polk County. Powell's sister, Crystal Kicklighter, told NBC Miami in January that Avsenew had recently moved into her brother's home to help with work around the house.

Kicklighter said she thinks Powell and Adams were targeted because they were gay.

Police say Avsenew has a long criminal history. He is being held without bond after he was transferred to Monroe County Wednesday.
