Man Jumps Into Lake After Hit-and-Run Crash at Seminole Casino Coconut Creek: Police

Police are searching for a hit-and-run suspect who struck a car at the Seminole Casino Coconut Creek then disappeared after jumping into a lake to flee the scene, officials said.

The incident happened around 1:40 a.m. Wednesday at the parking garage of the casino at 5550 Northwest 40th Street when a silver Lexus crashed into a parked vehicle then collided into two walls, Coconut Creek Police said.

A suspect, 33-year-old Steve Uwanawich, and his 15-year-old son, were in the Lexus and fled the scene, police said. They jumped into a lake north of the casino and tried to swim across, officials said.

While police were searching for the two, the teen approached an officer and told him his father didn't make it across the lake and may have drowned, police said.

The Coconut Creek/Margate dive team and Broward Sheriff's Office dive team searched the lake but found nothing.

The incident remains under investigation.
