Family Grieving After Man Killed, Boy Injured in Miami Gardens Shooting

A South Florida family is trying to understand why someone would shoot and kill a 35-year-old man and send his 12-year-old son to the hospital Monday night.

The shooting happened in the 19300 block of Northwest 39th Court in Miami Gardens. Family members identified the man as Spencer Robinson and say the family had lived at that same home for over 40 years.

Robinson's sister, Helena, told NBC 6 that her nephew, Sylvester, came running into the house first after he was sitting on the porch with his father when the first shots were fired. The child, who lives in Broward County and was spending the summer with his father, was taken to the hospital with a gun shot wound to his foot.

"My brother came running in the house, shot up, yelling 'help, help,'" Helena Robinson said. "I tried to get him to lay down on the ground; he did that."

Spencer Robinson died at the hospital. Police said he was the victim of another shooting in 2011 at the same location as Monday night's shooting.

Police said they're looking for a gold Dodge Charger that may have been involved in the shooting, but have released no other information at this point.

The shooting took place just five houses down from another deadly shooting late last month, when a man was shot and killed while inside a car with his girlfriend by that woman's ex.
