    A man was struck and killed by a train after his bicycle tire got stuck on the tracks, officials said.

    A Broward County man was struck and killed after his bicycle got stuck on the train tracks in Pompano Beach Friday, officials said.

    The Broward County Sheriff’s Office said James Marine, 45, was hit by an oncoming train as he tried to free his bicycle tire from the tracks.

    Though Marine tried to move away from the tracks as the train approached , he was unable to dodge the train in time, officials said. They said the conductor also tried to slow down the train.

    Hundreds of bicyclists took to Rickenbacker Causeway Wednesday evening with a strong message: drivers are required to share the road. Wednesday night's "ride of silence" was meant to honor those who were killed or injured while biking and to raise awareness about bike safety.

    Marine was pronounced dead on the scene, the Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue said.
