Man Killed, 2 Hurt in Hialeah Apartment Fire

One man was killed and two others were hospitalized after a fire swept through a Hialeah apartment building early Monday.

The fire broke out shortly before 3 a.m. at the Lake Point Plaza Apartments at 1025 West 76th Street, fire officials said.

One man was found dead inside the first floor unit where the fire started. The other two men were taken by air to Ryder Trauma Center where their conditions were unknown.

Relatives later identified the victim as 52-year-old Carlos Campos.

"He was a good father, called his kids every day," said Yolanda Perez Perez and Campos had been married for 25 years, but were separated for the past four years.

A police officer who was one of the first to respond to the scene was also taken to the hospital as a precaution, but was later released.

The fire was contained to one unit of the two-story building, officials said.

Preliminary investigation shows the fire was electrical in nature, but officials said they will continue to investigate any other possible causes.
