Man Punched Elderly Woman, Stole Purse: Miami-Dade Police

Police looking for suspect or suspicious car in violent robbery

Authorities are looking for a thief who punched an elderly woman in the head before making off with her purse, Miami-Dade Police said Thursday.

The robbery happened back on Sept. 22 in the 9100 block of Southwest 18th Terrace when the suspect approached the 74-year-old victim while she was sitting in her car, knocked on her window and asked to borrow her cell phone, police said.

As the woman was trying to get her phone to help the man, he reached into her car, grabbed her purse and punched her in the left side of her head, police said. He then fled the scene, possibly heading west on Southwest 18th Terrace.

Police believe the victim may have been followed from a nearby shopping center and identified a suspicious vehicle that was at the shopping center.

The suspect is described as a black male about 30 years old who was wearing a colorful printed hoodie. Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
