Man Shoots Pregnant Wife Near Airport: Cops

A man was shot five times after shooting his pregnant wife, police said

A man and his pregnant wife were hospitalized after a shooting near Daytona Airport Saturday night, authorities said.

Daytona Beach Police officers shot a man five times on Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s campus after he shot and injured his wife that was 14 weeks pregnant, police told WESH.

A deputy with the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office saw a man waving a gun around the airport terminal after picking up his wife, Daytona Beach Police Chief Michael Chitwood told WESH.

He said the couple then attempted to exit the airport in their car but punctured their tires for going the wrong way.

As three police officers approached the car, the man inside fired several shots at police, Chitwood said.

Police then returned fire and shot the man five times, he said.

At some point, the man also turned and shot his pregnant wife in the chest, police said.

Both individuals were taken to Halifax Medical Center; their condition is unknown.

"This appears to be an isolated incident of domestic violence. No additional suspects are being sought,” Daytona Beach Police Department spokesman Detective John Creamer told WESH.

The incident remains under investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
