Man Shot, Killed In Little Havana

What to Know

  • A man was shot and killed as he was allegedly just walking around a part of Little Havana.
  • The man was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
  • Police are urging the community to come forward if anyone has any information.

Miami police blocked off a portion of Northwest 11th Avenue and 3rd Street around 11 a.m. on Sunday following a fatal shooting that left one person dead.

Angela Castillo was visiting her family at the tame. She did not see the person responsible, but says the man shot was in his late thirties.

“He’s young. Just a day ago, he was hanging out with friends and we don’t know what happened,” said Castillo.

Investigators aren’t sharing any of the victim’s information yet. But a visibly upset woman, who is believed to be a close friend, was in tears as she received the news. Unfortunately, neighbors say gun violence is something the community has dealt with.

“There are around 11 officers here because they know the area and they react immediately,” said Castillo.

Police said the man was simply walking at the time. What led up to the shooting is unknown. He was taken to Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition, where he later died.

“According to the preliminary investigation, the man had been walking on the sidewalk when he was struck by an unknown offender,” said Kiara Delva of Miami Police.

Crime scene investigators are working to get a description of the possible suspect while also asking for the community’s input.

“At this time, we’re asking anyone with information. If you have seen or perhaps heard something, please, now is the time to call,” said Delva.
