A man who police say attacked his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend with a knife at her Hialeah home is facing attempted murder charges.
Gustavo Rivero, 56, was arrested Monday on two counts of second-degree attempted murder with a deadly weapon, and one count of armed burglary with assault or battery, according to an arrest report.
According to the arrest report, Rivero and his ex-girlfriend had lived together but had separated about five months ago, and she started dating another man.
Late Sunday night, the new boyfriend gave the woman a ride to her home on W. 38th Street and they went inside. While the man was in the bathroom, he heard a knock on the door, then heard the woman screaming "Gustavo, Gustavo!" the report said.
When the man opened the bathroom door, he saw Rivero standing inside the home with blood all over the floor. He said Rivero lunged at him and starting attacking him with a knife, cutting him in the neck before he was able to fight Rivero off and run outside for help, the report said.
Rivero chased after the man with the knife, but the man was able to lock himself inside his car, the report said. Rivero fled the scene before police arrived.
As police were arriving at the scene, the boyfriend saw the woman leaving a neighbor's house. She said Rivero had attacked her with the knife, cutting her neck, the report said.

The woman was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center with a cut on the front of her neck, and cuts on her earlobe and finger. Her boyfriend was also hospitalized with cuts to his neck and finger.
The report said Rivero later turned himself in. He was booked into jail where he was being held without bond Tuesday, records showed. Attorney information wasn't available.
