Man Staged Kidnapping to Get Ex Back: Cops

Man wanted undercover agent to kidnap girlfriend so that he could talk to her

A Broward man's attempt to win back his ex-girlfriend has landed him in a rough place to look for love: jail

Felix Joel Velasquez, 44, was charged with conspiracy to commit kidnapping, kidnapping and aggravated stalking after he allegedly hired an undercover detective to kidnap his ex-girlfriend in an attempt to jumpstart their relationship, the Broward Sheriff's Office said Thursday.

According to an arrest report, Velasquez first concocted the scheme to get his girl back while he was in Broward jail. He told another inmate about the idea, and the inmate informed authorities of his cellmate's plan, the report stated.

The plan, according to BSO detectives, was for the undercover agent to abduct Velasquez's ex-girlfriend on her way to work, tie her up and take her to a warehouse.

Velasquez would then arrive and act as another victim.

The undercover detective was then told to force the woman to write a check for $8,000 and make her take drugs. At this point, Velasquez would attempt to reconcile with the doped up victim and convince her not to contact authorities, BSO said.

To seal the arrest, the woman was brought in on the act and allowed officials to take pictures of her posed with her mouth taped.

The photo was sent to Velasquez, who thought his love connection plan was in play.

Velasquez then arrived at the warehouse as planned and instructed the undercover detective to tie him up with the victim. He was then arrested by BSO.
