Man Struck With Hammer, Threatened After Confronting Alleged Burglar in Miami Beach

Miami Beach Police have closed down a major intersection as they are searching for a person they say hit a man with a hammer and threatened him with a gun after allegedly burglarizing a construction site earlier in the day.

Chopper 6 was over the scene along Alton Road, which remains closed to Lenox Avenue to the east and west along with 10th to 11th Street to the north and south.

According to police officials, a call came in shortly after 12 p.m. of a burglary at 1300 Monad Terrace – with a worker from that site finding the suspect later near the intersection of 10th Street and Lenox Avenue.

At that point, police say the victim was struck and threatened before the suspect fled the scene. The victim was not seriously hurt and was treated at the scene.
