Man Swims, Swings at Cop, Flees in Car

BSO searching for suspect who tried to punch deputy

Police are looking for a man who they say took a swim before taking a swing at a deputy, then tried to run him over as he fled in his car in Deerfield Beach.

The bizarre incident began around 11:20 p.m. Thursday as Broward Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a call of a suspicious person in the 100 block of Lock Rd.

When deputies arrived the man jumped in a pool, then got out and tried to punch a deputy, police said. The deputy tried to tase the man, but he was able to get in his car.

Police said the man took off, nearly hitting a deputy as he made his way to I-95. Cops gave chase as the car exited at Copans Rd. heading east.

As cops closed in on the man, he bailed out of his car at Northwest 2nd Terrace and 19th St. in Pompano Beach.

Officers had set up a perimeter as they searched Friday morning for the suspect, who they described as a black male with dreadlocks and a red shirt.

Anyone with information is asked to call Broward CrimeStoppers at 954-493-TIPS.

Last month, a man suspected of stealing a car attempted to make a getaway by jumping into a canal. He finally gave up and police took him into custody.
