Man Wanted for Attempted Murder at Lauderhill Store: Police

An escalating argument is what police said is to blame for an attempted murder in Lauderhill.

The incident happened just after noon Monday at the Food Max convenience store and a young, innocent girl witnessed the shooter as he first pulled out a gun.

It was a frightening sight inside the store for the young girl in the checkout line with her mom: a man holding a gun just feet from her face.

Surveillance tape inside Food Max along Northwest 49th Avenue in Lauderhill shows the gunman pull the weapon from his waistband when he started to argue with another customer. The disagreement was reportedly over soda.

"You can see there's a small child maybe 5-6 years old who is staring right at the gun. If this guy had flinched, if he had made a reaction or accidentally pulled the trigger, not intentional, but that child could've been hurt or killed," said Major Rick Rocco with Lauderhill Police.

Surveillance footage shows the victim and suspect walking outside, and the gunman keeping an eye on where the victim went, but that's where the tape ended.

Police said the gunman then started shooting at the victim and a lady in their car, firing more than 10 rounds at them. Amazingly, no one was hit.

"There's a daycare almost in this guy's line of fire. There's a middle school across the street, so anybody could've gotten hit by a stray round," Rocco said.

Witnesses said the gunman got away in a silver Honda, and two other people were in the vehicle. He is described as being about 35 years of age with a clean beard and tattoos, and about 250 pounds.
