Man Wants Charges Filed Against Orlando Police Officer Who Kicked Him

Orlando's police chief says state officials will look into whether an officer used excessive force when he repeatedly kicked a man who was sitting passively on a curb.

Orlando Police Chief John Mina said Wednesday that he had asked the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to investigate the case.

Mina's decision came hours after 30-year-old Noel Carter said he was asking the State Attorney to bring battery charges against the officer who kicked him at least a dozen times, as well as another officer who was involved.

The officers were working off-duty at a downtown nightclub last Thursday. A bystander captured the encounter on video.

Mina says the video shows only a portion of what happened. He says officers believed Carter was in a domestic dispute and intervened.
