A man accused of going on a South Florida shopping spree with phony $100 bills is facing charges.
Oscar Pulido, 59, was booked into jail Wednesday on four counts of uttering forged bills, according to arrest reports.
The reports said Pulido passed off the fake $100 bills at least four times. The first happened in October 2018, when he used one to pay for $30 worth of face cream at a Massage Envy in Coral Gables, the reports said.
In March, Pulido used one to pay for a $10 T-shirt and two $30 gift vouchers at The Great Escape in Coral Gables, the reports said. On April 10, Pulido used one of the bills to pay for a manicure at Laque House in South Miami, then bought a $45 cheesecake at Havana Harry's in Coral Gables with one of the bills later that day, the reports said.
In most cases, the business found out the bills were fake when they tried to deposit them at banks, the reports said. The U.S. Secret Service was able to confirm that the serial numbers on the bills were invalid.
Pulido was given a $5,000 bond but remained in jail on an immigration hold Thursday, records showed. Attorney information wasn't available.
