Man Who Killed Deputy Made Threats 2 Days Earlier: Wife

A woman says her husband threatened to kill someone just two days before he shot and killed a sheriff's deputy.

Carolina Smith wrote in her request for a restraining order filed Monday that her 33-year-old husband, Joel Dixon Smith, had been watching their baby Sunday night when the boy rolled off their bed. She told Smith he needed to watch the baby when he was on the bed.

She wrote Smith grabbed her neck, pushed her against the wall and grabbed her phone as she called police. She says he then told her "someone was leaving in a coffin'' if she called police. He soon left the house.

On Tuesday, Smith fatally shot Okaloosa County Deputy Bill Myers as he served Smith with the restraining order. Smith later died in a shootout with other deputies.
