Jealous ex who stabbed woman in chest turns self in: Authorities

The man who stabbed a woman inside her Plantation Key home Tuesday is in custody after surrendering to police in Miami-Dade, authorities said Wednesday.

Alexander Flores, 33, is facing aggravated battery, burglary, criminal mischief and resisting arrest charges after turning himself in Wednesday, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

Police say Flores admitted to stabbing the 33-year-old woman after breaking into her home in the 81000 block of Old Highway. Flores stabbed her in the chest then held a knife to her throat and asked her to leave the house with him, authorities said.

As they walked out the front door, Flores was scared off by the woman's friend, authorities said.

Flores flagged down an officer in Miami-Dade and said he wanted to turn himself in for the crime, and Monroe County detectives drove to Miami and picked him up, authorities said.

According to police, Flores said he and the woman used to date but broke up about a month ago. He said he became angry when he learned she was seeing someone else so he got drunk, broke into the house and attacked the woman, authorities said.

Flores was booked into the Monroe County Jail and it was unknown whether he has an attorney.

The victim, who wasn't identified, was airlifted to Miami's Ryder Trauma Center where she was in stable condition.
