Man With Lengthy Rap Sheet Held on $1M Bond in Gainesville Purse Snatching Case

Bond has been set at $1 million for a 49-year-old man accused of snatching a purse in Gainesville, just the latest of more than 100 criminal cases that man has faced in the past three decades.

Police say Garnet Mintz was already out on a $10,000 bond when he was arrested Monday.

He's accused of stealing a $1,500 purse from a vehicle. The victim told police she saw Mintz in her car and told him to leave. He ran, taking the purse with him.

Police say she caught up with him. He threw her to ground, along with the contents of the purse. A police officer eventually caught up with Mintz, and he was arrested on a robbery charge.

Mintz' extensive criminal record is rife with convictions for grand theft, burglary, drug sales and battery, court records show.

The Gainesville Sun reports Mintz has faced more than 100 criminal cases in 30 years and has served six prison terms.

Records don't indicate whether Mintz has hired an attorney.
