Man on Moped Critically Injured in Hit-And-Run Crash: Miami Police

The family of Miami man who was critically injured when he struck by a hit-and run driver while driving a moped is asking the public for help in finding the suspect.

Dayan Calvo Sotolongo, 29, was riding westbound on Northwest 79th Street at Northwest 5th Court around 1:30 p.m. on June 5 when he was struck by a white Infiniti 4-door, Miami Police said.

Sotolongo had driven around a Miami-Dade County bus when he was struck by the car, which threw him several feet into the air, police said. The driver of the car fled the scene.

Sotolongo was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where he remains in critical condition.

The family of Sotolongo joined police at a news conference Wednesday to ask for the driver to come forward.

"You still have time to turn yourself in, we're still investigating, there's a lot of possibilities of what may have occurred here, we'd like to hear your side of the story," Det. Joseph Kennedy said.

Police are also looking for the vehicle, which they believe has extensive front-end damage. Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
