A man who was found covered in blood and armed with a knife was hospitalized in critical condition after he was tasered by officers in Coral Gables Friday, officials said.
Police responded to a 911 call around 12:30 p.m. of the armed man at the intersection of Lejeune Road and Almeria Avenue, Coral Gables Police said.
Upon their arrival, officers say they saw a white Hispanic male, who was around 40 to 50 years old, covered in blood and holding a knife.
An NBC 6 viewer who happened to be in the area took photos of the man from his car.
Authorities say the man began to walk toward the officers who told him to drop the knife several times. The man did not follow their commands and officers discharged their Tasers, officials said.

Officers were able to retrieve the knife and gave first aid to the man. Fire Rescue responded and transported the man to Jackson Memorial Hospital where he was in critical condition.
"Immediately upon subduing the individual and after deploying their Tasers several times to get him to drop the knife, they actually rendered first aid to the point where two officers applied a brachial artery stop to stop him from bleeding out from his wrist," Police Chief Edward Hudak said.
Officials have not released the name of the man at this time.
