Marlins Beat Champs Despite Striking Out 15 Times

The Miami Marlins struck out 15 times but did not let that get in the way of their 6-2 win over the San Francisco Giants on Saturday.

The strikeout total for Miami was its highest of the season and came against the hero of last year's World Series, Madison Bumgarner. The southpaw was dominating the Marlins until they put together a few hits in the fourth inning. Miami would go on to add insurance runs later in the game as well.

With the victory, the Marlins have their record at 15-16 after a recent trend of winning every other game. The record is good for third in the National League East and has the Marlins only one game back in the Wild Card chase.

Marcell Ozuna contributed during that aforementioned fourth inning rally with his second home run of the season. The blast was a no-doubter and gave Ozuna nine runs batted in on the year. The center fielder started the year in a slump but has become one of Miami/s biggest contributors as of late.

With Dee Gordon sidelined for another day, Christian Yelich remained planted atop Miami's lineup. The left fielder struggled again with an 0-4 day that featured three strikeouts. Yelich has been held hit-less since returning, and has struck out the majority of the time.

When Jeff Baker was forced to leave the game with oblique tightness, Donovan Solano entered and picked up a two-run double. Baker is considered day-to-day, but Miami may be forced to make a move for depth purposes.

David Phelps pitched brilliantly while improving to 2-0 on the year. Phelps went six innings in which he allowed one run on three hits. The right-hander has a 2.90 E.R.A on the year and will likely remain in the rotation even after Henderson Alvarez returns.
