Marlins Drop Final Game in Jupiter

The Marlins wrapped up their Roger Dean Stadium portion of the schedule on Wednesday

The Miami Marlins played at Roger Dean Stadium for the final time this spring on Wednesday and lost 3-0 to the St. Louis Cardinals.

Miami still has two games remaining on the Grapefruit League schedule, but those will both come at Marlins Park against the New York Yankees. The Marlins will now head south for those games after spending the past month in Jupiter where they shared a complex with the Cardinals.

The Marlins had trouble getting their offense going in this one with only three total hits. All three of those hits were singles with Dee Gordon, Robert Andino and Adeiny Hechavarria each collecting one knock. Andino entered camp hoping to be on Miami's bench, but it appears likely he will be offered a role in AAA instead.

Miami saw Derek Dietrich struggle once again going 0-2 with a strikeout. Dietrich is expected to make the team due to being out of options, but hit a paltry .094 on the spring. The utility player gives manager Don Mattingly a powerful bat off the bench, if he is able to find his swing during the season.

On the mound at the start of this one for the Marlins was David Phelps who is expected to serve as a middle reliever. Phelps gave Miami three perfect innings in which he struck out six. The veteran could be an option as a starter during the season as well if needed.

Edwin Jackson struggled in his relief appearance on Wednesday allowing a pair of runs in two innings. Jackson had a turbulent spring but is expected to be on Miami's Opening Night roster and serve in a middle relief role.

The Marlins will take on the Yankees on Friday at 7:10 p.m. with Jose Fernandez slated to be on the mound.
