Marlins Drop Series to Phillies

The Marlins dropped the series finale to Phillies on Wednesday by a final score of 4-2

The Miami Marlins were beaten by the Philadelphia Phillies 4-2 on Wednesday at Citizens Bank Park.

Tom Koehler had a quality start with all three runs against him coming in the third inning. Koehler walked five, surrendered seven hits and struck out four. It took the right-hander 115 pitches to get through his seven innings on the mound.

Only two of the runs against Koehler were earned as one scored with help from an error. That run loomed large and ended up being the game-winner.

Giancarlo Stanton's slump continued in an 0-4 day that featured four strikeouts. Miami's slugger is hitting only .189 in May and has struck out 22 times in the month. In 2016 overall, Stanton has struck out 52 times in 135 at-bats.

The Marlins only managed six hits in the loss with two going for extra bases. Christian Yelich (13) and Marcell Ozuna (5) each doubled. Both players had a run batted in as well.

Miami didn't have many opportunities to score in this one and went 1-3 overall with runners in scoring position. As a team, the Marlins left two men on base in the loss.

Miami will be off on Thursday before beginning a homestand against the Washington Nationals on Friday. Justin Nicolino will make the start in the series opener.
