Marlins Fall to Red-Hot Mets Again

The Mets continued to roll with another win over the Marlins on Tuesday

The first place New York Mets stayed hot with a 5-1 win over the Miami Marlins on Tuesday at Marlins Park.

Due to recent trades, the Marlins were forced to give the ball to Brad Hand for the start. The left-hander did a solid job, but was only able to go four innings. Hand has spent recent weeks in the bullpen, and has not built up proper arm strength. Hand allowed no runs on five hits in his four frames.

With a short start, Miami needed multiple innings from the pen and that's where things crumbled. Adam Conley allowed a run in his 2.1 innings, after entering with the lead. He would end up with a no-decision just like Hand.

The real damage came in the eighth inning when Mike Dunn allowed four runs on five hits while only retiring two batters. Dunn has a 4.89 E.R.A this year and has several stretches of poor performance along the way.

Dee Gordon brought home the lone run for the Marlins in a game where they registered no extra-base hits. In all, Miami had seven hits while going 1-5 with runners in scoring position. As a team, the Marlins left seven men on base.

Casey McGehee who has seen plenty of opportunities went 0-3 out of the cleanup spot. McGehee has been unable to find his stroke since rejoining the Marlins and could lose playing time soon.

Miami will give the ball to David Phelps on Wednesday as it tries to avoid being swept by New York.
