The Miami Marlins had their four-game win streak snapped in a loss to the Philadelphia Phillies by a final score of 6-2 on Sunday.
The Marlins were trying to complete a sweep of the Phillies and also win a tenth game in 11 tries. The loss drops Miami back under .500 with a 12-13 record. With the recent wins, the Marlins still find themselves in a tie for second place in the division despite Sunday's loss.
Due to needing to play 14 days in a row, manager Mike Redmond took Sunday's game as an opportunity to rest some players. Dee Gordon, Martin Prado and J.T. Realmuto all sat in favor of Donovan Solano, Reid Brignac and Jhonatan Solano respectively. This marked the first time that brothers had suited up in the same lineup for Miami.
The Marlins only had one extra-base hit total and that came from J. Solano with his first double of the year. The two-base hit brought home a runner which just happened to be his brother. With limited at-bats for both players, it could be rare to find both men in the starting lineup again together.
Ichiro Suzuki led off with Gordon out and started the game off like his vintage self. Suzuki got on board to begin the game and stole two bases before scoring the game's first run. The story was not as good for Adeiny Hechavarria who was promoted to the second slot and went 0-4.
Jarred Cosart made the start for the Marlins and was cruising until a rough sixth inning. Cosart was unable to retire a hitter in that frame and exited with five innings of two-run ball. Cosart struck out five and walked one.
Miami will begin a ten-game road trip when it takes on the Washington Nationals on Monday.
