Marlins Held Scoreless in Loss to Padres

The Marlins were shutout 1-0 by the Padres on Saturday at Marlins Park

The Miami Marlins were beaten 1-0 by the San Diego Padres on Saturday at Marlins Park.

The Padres have one of the worst records in Major League Baseball, but appeared much better in this one. Miami was unable to get anything going against starter Clayton Richard and the San Diego bullpen.

Jose Urena made the start for Miami and lasted 5.2 innings. The right-hander struck out six, walked two and allowed a run on four hits. It was a decent start for Urena, but he was charged with the loss due to the lack of run support. Urena is now 2-5 on the year with a 5.83 E.R.A.

The Marlins needed to use several relievers to keep the game close. Mike Dunn, Kyle Barraclough, A.J. Ramos and Fernando Rodney combined for 3.1 scoreless innings of relief work. Rodney loaded the base in the ninth inning, but was able to strike out Brett Wallace to end the threat.

Miami had nine hits in the game and only one of them was for extra bases. Martin Prado's 28th double of the season joined eight singles for Miami. Prado was 4-4 in the game, while the Marlins as a team were only 1-8 with runners in scoring position.

Justin Nicolino will be on the mound for the Marlins in the series finale on Sunday.
