Marlins Hold Braves to Three Hits in Shutout Win

The Marlins shut Atlanta out 4-0 on Monday to snap a two-game losing streak

The Miami Marlins received a great effort from their pitching staff in a 4-0 win over the Atlanta Braves on Monday.

The Braves only managed three hits against Chris Narveson and four different relievers for Miami. While the pitchers did their job, Miami's offense was also solid. The Marlins added on runs in the late innings to pad the lead.

With the victory, the Marlins now have sole possession of fourth place in the National League East. The Philadelphia Phillies lost on Monday which puts them one game behind Miami.

Narveson was knocked around in his last start, but looked like a different pitcher in this one. After allowing seven runs to the Pittsburgh Pirates in a short start, Narveson gave up no runs in 5.1 innings while picking up the win. The veteran only gave up two hits and struck out three along the way.

Kyle Barraclough, Bryan Morris, Michael Dunn and A.J. Ramos all combined for 3.2 scoreless innings of relief. In those frames, the relievers allowed only one hit and struck out three.

Cole Gillespie got the scoring started early for Miami when he blasted his second home run of the season in the second inning. Gillespie has seen a fair share of playing time due to a variety of injuries in Miami's outfield.

Justin Bour continued to make a case for the starting job at first base in 2016 with a 3-4 day. Bour doubled for the 15th time this year which also knocked in his 46th run of the season.

Justin Nicolino will get the ball on Tuesday as Miami seeks a second straight win over Atlanta.
