Marlins' Jennings to Leave Dugout and Return to Front Office

Dan Jennings will not manage the Marlins in 2016 and will return to his role as general manager

The Miami Marlins made things official on Tuesday when they announced Dan Jennings will return to his role as general manager.

Jennings made the rare move of going from the front office to the dugout in May when Mike Redmond was fired as manager. When Jennings was moved, there were a lot of question marks surrounding the decision. Not only had Jennings never managed before, but he also never held a coaching job at any professional level.

There had been speculation that Jennings could end up leaving the organization completely, but team president David Samson quieted those rumors.

Samson stated that Jennings is a "signed member" and would return as general manager due to that. The team has the option to terminate Jennings' contract, but does not plan to do so. Should Jennings opt to head elsewhere, he would forfeit the remainder of his salary.

Jennings will find new people surrounding him in his office as Miami has made additions to its front office in recent months. Jennings will be joined by Marc DelPiano who returned to the team after a stint in Pittsburgh. DelPiano will serve as the Director of Baseball Operations. While Jennings will have a role in decision making, it appears those decisions will be more of a group effort.

The Marlins will begin an "extensive and exhaustive" search for a new manager according to Hill. There were reports that the Marlins have already interviewed several candidates including Larry Bowa. It seems that Miami will look for an experienced manager this time around.
