Marlins Open Homestand With 5-1 Win

The Miami Marlins began a long homestand with a 5-1 win over the Colorado Rockies on Friday.

Miami will play ten games in a row at Marlins Park following a long road trip. The Marlins scored all their runs in two innings and made those runs hold up. With the win, Miami is now three games over .500 and continued some excellent recent play at home.

Perhaps the best news for Miami was the play of Giancarlo Stanton. The slugger has been slumping since early May and had two hits in this one. Stanton also knocked in two runs to give him 31 runs batted in on the season. With the solid day, Stanton lifted his batting average to .200 on the year.

Christian Yelich's two-run home run in the sixth inning put Miami on top and it never looked back. The homer was the sixth of the year for Yelich and came when the Marlins were down 1-0.

Martin Prado would add his 14th double of the season in the win. The third baseman scored two of Miami's runs as well.

Ichiro Suzuki did not start the game and ended up appearing as a pinch-hitter. The All-Time leader in professional hits singled and also scored a run. Suzuki now has 4,258 hits in his professional baseball career.

Adam Conley started the game with 5.2 no-hit innings before Colorado got to him. The Rockies would end up scoring one run off Conley on one hit. The lefty walked five and also struck out five while throwing 109 pitches.
