Marlins Remain Tied For Last With 4th Straight Loss

The Miami Marlins lost a fourth consecutive game when they fell to the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-2 on Monday at Marlins Park.

Tom Koehler gave up two runs on seven hits in six innings of work while walking four. It was a great effort for Koehler, but a lack of run support led to him being tagged with a loss. Koehler is now 8-12 on the season despite a solid 3.98 E.R.A.

Brian Ellington and Erik Cordier were each charged with a run while pitching in relief. Cordier ended up retiring no hitters as he was ejected from the game. The home plate umpire threw Cordier out after a series of inside pitches to Pittsburgh hitters including a hit batsmen. To their credit, the Pirates did not retaliate at any point.

Bryan Morris had a poor outing in the ninth when he walked four hitters while only retiring two. Morris allowed a run along the way.

The Marlins struggled to get their offense going as they only tallied one extra base hit out of their seven total hits. Marcell Ozuna contributed that knock with his 17th double of the season.

Miami's first run scored in the seventh inning and was brought home by J.T. Realmuto. The run batted in was the 36th of the year for Miami's rookie catcher. Realmuto has quickly become a key cog in Miami's everyday lineup. The Marlins would add a run on in the bottom of the ninth on a groundout.

As has been the theme all year long, the Marlins struggled with runners in scoring position. As a team, they were 0-5 with RISP and left six men on base.
