Marlins Skid Stretches to Five After Loss to Phillies

The Marlins dropped their fifth straight game on Tuesday with a 7-3 loss to the Phillies

The Miami Marlins fell for a fifth consecutive time when the Philadelphia Phillies came away with a 7-3 win on Tuesday.

The loss gives Miami a 3-11 record on the season which is one of the worst records in the league. The Marlins already find themselves eight games behind the first place New York Mets due to one of the worst starts in franchise history.

When Miami took a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning, it looked like it may have turned a corner. However, it didn't take long for Philadelphia to take the lead back and then subsequently add onto it. Before they knew it, the Marlins once again faced a large deficit and they were unable to come back.

Dan Haren has been Miami's most dependable starter this year but he did not have his best stuff in this one. Haren allowed four runs in six innings on four hits and three walks. The veteran did strike out seven while being tagged with the loss. Haren's E.R.A on the year now sits at 3.32.

Mike Dunn would come out of the bullpen first for Miami and struggled mightily allowing three runs in his lone inning of work. Those runs all came in the seventh inning which gave the Marlins little time to mount a comeback effort.

Giancarlo Stanton continued his recent surge with another home run. After a slow start to the year, Stanton now is hitting .260 with three home runs and 12 runs batted in. Stanton had a two-hit day as did Ichiro Suzuki who received a start in place of Christian Yelich. The regular left-fielder was unable to play due to tightness in his lower back.

Miami will try to stop its slide on Wednesday when it sends Jarred Cosart to the mound.
