Miami Fire Rescue crews arrived at the scene near Northwest 16th Street and 17th Avenue just after 2 a.m. after someone called 911 saying they heard a blast, with crews finding heavy flames and smoke coming from the back of the home and people fleeing.

Officials say four adults were inside at the time and able to get out while firefighters went inside to get the family dog that did not come out at first. Another dog escaped the fire while several birds reportedly were also rescued.

Two apartment buildings near the home were also evacuated as a precaution, but no injuries were reported. Florida Power and Light service was temporarily shut down as a precaution, but has since been restored.

Investigators continue to be on the scene working to determine what caused the fire to begin. The Red Coss is helping the family at this time.
