Mega Millions Makes Its Florida Debut on Wednesday

State economists have concluded that the addition of Mega Millions will result in reduced sales in both Powerball and Florida Lotto, which has been the flagship game for the Lottery.

Florida is getting ready to start selling tickets to the popular Mega Millions game.

It makes its debut in the state on Wednesday.

Florida becomes the last state in the nation with a lottery to join Mega Millions, which last year had a record lottery payout. But the move comes amid lingering questions on how the sales will impact other lottery ticket games.

State economists have concluded that the addition of Mega Millions will result in reduced sales in both Powerball and Florida Lotto, which has been the flagship game for the Lottery.

The addition of Mega Millions is expected to do little to boost the overall amount coming from the Florida Lottery to education programs. The Lottery is expected in the coming year to transfer $1.37 billion to schools and college financial aid programs.
