It’s a sad day for jaguars everywhere.

Palenque, a 3-year-old jag at Metrozoo, died Wednesday after complications during surgery to relieve his gas problems.

The 129-pound cat was part of the zoo’s Amazon and Beyond exhibit that opened almost a year ago.

Vets said during a physical exam, Palenque began having trouble breathing and efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.

The zoo did a necropsy to determine what went wrong and found heart and intestinal problems within the cat. More tests are scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.

The zoo is now down to one jaguar in the popular exhibit.
