Miami Beach commissioners have approved a ban on alcohol consumption at sidewalk cafes between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m.
Commissioners approved the measure at Wednesday's meeting. The new law will go into effect May 30.
Supporters say it will create a safer environment and will cut down on crime. There are 196 sidewalk cafes in Miami Beach, most of them in South Beach.
