Miami Beach Police were working a death investigation at the Flamingo Monday evening.
Officers responded to 1500 Bay Road around 7 p.m. after receiving a 911 call from security personnel. They said two young children had reported their mother was assaulted in their apartment.
Responding officers found the woman dead inside. Police said they are "working multiple leads and will be at the scene all night."
"From the very beginning we had our special unit out here with us, with the children, consoling them, and we have several services en route to ensure the well-being of the children," said Ernesto Rodriguez with MBPD.
"I'm really shocked. I can't believe this is happening in the middle of South Beach. I thought this area is pretty safe," said Svjetlana Davaoic, resident.
No further details have been released about a possible suspect, but investigators said this could be a domestic case.
Drivers were encouraged to avoid the area Monday night and find alternate routes due to the investigation.
