Miami-Dade Cop Busted for Buying Cocaine

Officer allegedly spotted buying drugs off Coconut Grove street

A veteran Miami-Dade officer is behind bars after he was arrested while buying cocaine in Coconut Grove early Friday morning, police said.

Midwest District Officer Joey Ganem, 47, is facing two counts of cocaine possession after his arrest at Southwest 37th Ave. and 29th Street around 3 a.m., according to Miami-Dade Police.

Police say Internal Affairs investigators spotted Ganem buying the drugs and pulled him over and took him into custody.

Ganem, who has been with the Miami-Dade Police since 1984, was relieved of duty pending the conclusion of the investigation.

It's the second arrest of a Miami-Dade officer in the past week. Sgt. Reinaldo Ruiz was arrested for domestic violence earlier this week after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend because she wouldn't hold his hand at a Heat game.

Ruiz was also relieved of duty pending the investigation outcome.
