Miami-Dade County Encourages Residents to Recycle Their Christmas Trees

The program starts Monday and runs through Jan. 9

Miami-Dade County is encouraging residents to recycle their Christmas trees instead of throwing them out.

From Monday until Jan. 9, 2012, people who get curbside garbage collection can take their tree to any of the county's 13 recycling centers or to the two Home Chemical Collection Centers.

All trees should have their lights and ornaments taken off before being dropped off for recycling.

The trees will become mulch, which will be available to residents mid-January on a first-come, first-served basis.

Miramar residents can also bring their trees in to be recycled at two locations until Jan. 22. No artificial trees will be accepted, and there is a two tree limit per vehicle.

The locations are: Snake Warrior's Island Natural Area, located at 3600 SW 62nd Ave, 954-964-0283, and C.B. Smith Park, 900 N. Flamingo Road, Pembroke Pines, 954-437-2650. On Jan. 1, 15, and 18, no drop-offs will be accepted.
