Miami-Dade Police Identify Officer Shot in Armed Robbery

Police previously arrested three people they say are responsible for the shooting

Police identified the Miami-Dade Police officer shot during an armed robbery over the weekend.

Detective Wislyn Jospeh, shot in the chest after he finished volunteering at a church, is scheduled to speak about the ordeal on Wednesday at 11 a.m.

The 911 call, which Joseph made on his own, will also be made available.

On Saturday evening, police say three men ambushed the off-duty officer at gunpoint and demanded his jewelry. At that point, 19-year-old Willie Barney shot Joseph in the chest, according to Miami-Dade Police.

Barney, Dedrick Brown, 20, and Travares Santiago, 20, were arrested on robbery and attempted murder charges Sunday, authorities said.

The shooting occurred near Union Baptist Church, located at 6701 NW 7th Ave.
