Miami-Dade Schools Eliminate 24 Tests

Miami-Dade County students will take two dozen fewer tests in the current school year after a preliminary review of the school district’s testing programs.

According to the school district, the review was conducted to address concerns over the amount of testing students in the county face each year. The school district said the adjustments to the testing calendar will result in a reduction in testing time upwards of 260 minutes depending on the grade.

“This action should bring relief to parents and educators who have been concerned over the excessive amount of tests students face and the time those tests take from valuable classroom instruction,” Miami-Dade Superintendent Alberto Carvalho said.

The district said district baseline tests were decommissioned earlier this year and the new action separate Fall and Winter administrations of the Interim Assessments have been cancelled.

The school board said all of the adjustments to the testing schedule meet all state and federal requirements.
