Miami-Dade Schools Scrap Hundreds of Year-End Exams

Miami-Dade County Public Schools announced Thursday that they've slashed nearly all of the 300 District-Developed End-of-Course (DDEOC) exams that were set to take place this Spring.

Superintendent of Schools Alberto Carvalho announced Thursday that only 10 subjects will be included in the field test. Those subjects include:

  • Middle/Junior Comprehensive Science 1
  • Middle/Junior Comprehensive Science 2
  • Physical Science
  • Chemistry 1
  • Physics 1
  • Middle/Junior United States History
  • Middle/Junior World History
  • World History
  • Spanish 1
  • Spanish 2

No tests will be administered at all on the elementary level, MDCPS announced. Carvalho said the move is in response to concerns from students, teachers and parents who agree that too much test-taking "deprives our students of valuable instruction time."

The results from the computer-based tests will not be used for the 2014/2015 school year

Several new exams are expected to be field tested each year.
