Miami-Dade Schools Show Improvement: Report

Nationally, Fourth-and eighth-grade mathematics and eighth-grade reading scores decline compared to 2013.

The Nation's Report Card was released Wednesday, and Miami-Dade schools are showing some significant improvements over the last two years.

According to data, math scores for fourth grade students in Miami-Dade Public Schools have improved over the last two years, as have reading scores of eighth graders.

The National Assessment of Education Progress has only been collecting data on MDCPS since 2009, but sees greater progress in the county than across the state of Florida.

Nationally, researchers found that the country as a whole is on a decline in fourth and eighth-grade mathematics, as well as eighth-grade reading scores since 2013.

The average fourth-grade reading score remained unchanged nationally.

The Nation's Report Card is administered by the National Center for Education Statistics, and is considered the "gold standard" of student assessments.
