Thursday night, 32 former college football players will hear their names called during the first round of the NFL Draft.
The three day event – being held this year in Philadelphia – kicks off with the first round on Thursday, rounds two and three on Friday and rounds four through seven on Saturday. In total, 253 players will be picked by the 32 NFL teams – including the Miami Dolphins, who will have the 22nd pick in the first round that starts at 8 p.m.
The Dolphins have a total of eight picks in this year’s draft and have expressed a willingness to hear options for a trade in order to acquire more picks.
Fans of the University of Miami will also be paying close attention to this year’s draft as several players – including quarterback Brad Kaaya – will likely be selected, adding to the school’s legacy of sending players to the pros. Kaaya is not expected to be selected in the first round, while tight end David Njoku could be taken according to many mock drafts.
Another top player with South Florida ties that could go during the first round is former FSU running back and Miami Central High School grad Dalvin Cook. Cook, who became the Seminoles’ all-time leading rusher this season, has been projected to go anywhere from the middle of the first round all the way to the second round.
