Miami FC Re-Ignites Soccer Fever in the Magic City

Miami witnessed the rebirth of soccer in its city Saturday night when the newly formed Miami FC played its inaugural match against the Tampa Bay Rowdies at Ocean Bank stadium at FIU.

In their home opener, Miami's newest pro-soccer club had to settle for a 1-1 tie where Argentine striker, Dario Cvitanich made history by scoring the first official season goal for Miami FC with a corner kick in the 17th minute that brought the crowd to its feet.

"The crowd was fantastic," said midfielder Wilson Palacios. "Their energy gave us a great boost on the field, especially late in the game."

In attendance was also Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez who last year told the Miami Herald he was excited to welcome professional soccer to Miami-Dade County.

The mayor took time to pose with media and fans and even tweeted a photo posing with both team captains, referees and special guest Maluma.

The Miami FC is back in action Saturday, April 16, with a road clash against the Jacksonville Armada.
