Family and friends said their final goodbyes Thursday to a popular City of Miami firefighter who died after a brief battle with cancer.
Rafael "Ralf" Garcia was laid to rest following a funeral at St. Kevin Roman Catholic Church. A large procession, including Miami Fire and law enforcement, proceeded to Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Cemetery for the burial.
Garcia, a firefighter on a Miami fireboat, underwent emergency surgery Sunday to remove a tumor on his cerebellum. He lost consciousness following the surgery and was taken off life support Tuesday after donating organs, officials said.
Garcia's wife, Maeghan, is seven months pregnant with their son, Mason.
A GoFundMe page established to help support baby Mason has raised nearly $170,000 since Monday.
