Authorities have identified the Miami Gardens man whose body was found by a fisherman near a Boca Raton canal over the weekend.
The body of 22-year-old Vilelio Gerson Vasquez-Portillo was found Sunday morning on the embankment of the canal in the 19000 block of 120th Avenue South, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said Thursday.
The fisherman called 911 and authorities pronounced the man dead at the scene. Detectives from the violent crimes division are investigating the death, which was called a homicide.
The motive for the death was unknown.
