Miami Gardens Police Holds Service for K-9 Officer

Miami Gardens Police held a memorial service Wednesday for Max, a police K-9 killed in the line of duty.

Various officers attended the service, which was held at Tropical Park Police Officers Memorial.

On Sept.12, Max and his partner, Officer Bezio, responded to a reported burglary in Miami Gardens. When the two arrived, police believed the suspects were still inside the house and sent the dog to verify, Miami Gardens Police said.

Max entered through a glass window and one of the panels collapsed, causing a deep cut in the dog’s ear.

He was taken to the Hollywood Animal Hospital, where he underwent surgery for his cut. But during the surgery, Max’s cardiovascular system failed.

The dog worked with his assigned officer since May 2009.
